NYC STREETS
I get nostalgic sometimes for New York City. Being a Jersey Boy who spent most of his time in Jersey City, NYC was just a path train away. I was lucky enough to get into NYU for undergrad and it was then I had my first experiences getting piss drunk in the streets and then having to pee really bad while looking for a dark corner or alleyway to relieve myself. Coming out of the club felt even better. I can remember that feeling from dancing all night and then downing 6 hotdogs at Grey’s Papayas like it was yesterday.
The other day I looked through some images I took in NYC back in the day and converted them to Black and White. There is something about pictures from NYC that just feel right in Black and White. Black and White was never my go to as I love color too much but there are so many photographers that I love that mainly shoot in Black and White. My brother from another mother, KD takes some straight up bangers in Black and White and it is because of him that I want to explore and take more pics this way. I want to get better at seeing different shades and tones and hone in on a single subject. I think Black and White excels at that.
These are not my favorite photographs but I wanted to share them anyway. I like to look at some old stuff to see how I was seeing at the time. Sometimes I find some stuff where I’m like wow thats pretty good but most times I look at old stuff and want to slap myself in the face. I guess thats what evolution is and I have a long way to go in my Black and White journey. Time to look at some photography books and get inspired.
